Our story

A name in South African water treatment for over 25 years.

Since 1998, Prosep has supplied treatment chemicals, equipment, and on-site engineering to mining, power, food and beverage, manufacturing, and commercial sectors across South Africa.

We work alongside your team as hands-on specialists and problem-solvers, focused on measurable results in uptime, efficiency, and compliance. Our engineers don't drop off drums and disappear — they sample, dose, monitor, report, and come back.

Steve Evans

Chief Executive Officer & Founder

Steve has spent more than 40 years in process chemicals, filtration and water treatment, and the route there was unusually thorough. He started in 1978 as a metallurgist in training at Gold Fields of South Africa, working on the processing of coal, gold, tin and uranium. From there: four years as a sales engineer to the coal industry at Multotec, five years in sales and marketing for mining chemicals at Anikem with key accounts across gold, platinum and coal, then four years with Pall Corporation as Regional General Manager for South East Asia, running the water treatment and filtration business across the region. He founded Prosep in Boksburg and has led it since, first as Managing Director and, since 2024, as CEO.

He holds a Diploma in Extractive Metallurgy from the University of the Witwatersrand and a Diploma in Industrial Marketing from the IMM Graduate School. The company's defining habits — design and commission the whole system, train the client's people, write the long-term service agreement and honour it — are his.

Managing Director

Cameron is a mechanical engineer (University of Johannesburg) who came up through the projects side of the business: effluent treatment, reverse osmosis, desalination, atmospheric water generation, sewage and industrial water projects as Prosep's Project Manager before working as a consulting mechanical engineer in Asia. In 2019 he co-founded SA Clean Water, building an online presence for professional water treatment equipment supply, and in 2024 he was appointed Managing Director of the Prosep group. He runs the company's systems, structure and growth.

Liam McMillan

Chief Financial Officer

Liam is a Chartered Accountant, CA(SA), who joined Prosep in 2026 after fifteen years in corporate finance: four and a half years at PwC South Africa, then a decade with the Naspers and MultiChoice group, finishing as Senior Manager of Group Finance with responsibility for the financial management of three corporate entities, group financial planning and analysis presented monthly to EXCO, board and audit committee deliverables, and the group's external audit process. In 2022 he was seconded as Head of Finance to the SA20 cricket league for its establishment, setting up its financial processes, tax registration and franchise financial frameworks from zero. At Prosep he owns the numbers: pricing discipline, transparent programme costing, and the financial controls behind a 50-plus-person technical business.

Effluent & heavy metals removal

Steel pipe coating plant

Problem
Acid pickling effluent, very low pH, high chlorides, dissolved iron, zinc and lead. Lime-only treatment left iron high, limited water reuse, generated heavy sludge, and forced a full plant clean every three months, draining 10 to 20 cubic metres each time.
Programme
EPSE chemistry verified at laboratory scale in Finland (November 2024) before full-scale implementation (June 2025). Daily on-site sampling run in parallel against lime-only treatment. pH control automated to a 9.5 target after operator variability was identified as a treatment quality risk.
Result
Iron consistently below 0.37 mg/L (previously above 0.87 mg/L). Lead and zinc removed where lime removed neither. Overall heavy metal reduction above 99.9%. Plant cleaning down from quarterly to once in eight months, that one precautionary. Fully recycled water, zero discharge. Sludge declassification from hazardous waste under review.

Process water — reverse osmosis

Food producer, Cosmo City

Problem
Rising municipal water consumption costs.
Programme
A 4.5 m³/h reverse osmosis system on borehole feed, engineered and installed by Prosep, commissioned October 2020.
Result
Operational for over five years. Municipal water cut to a backup role used mainly during planned Rand Water shutdowns. In a reference month, around 1,140 kl of treated water produced against 239 kl of municipal top-up.

Alternative supply — rainwater harvesting

Beverage producer, Heidelberg

Problem
Municipal water consumption costs.
Programme
Four 10 m³ rainwater storage tanks installed across the site's harvesting stations with filtration, commissioned December 2023, designed to capture in the order of 2,600 m³ of rainwater a year from roughly 3,000 m² of roof.
Result
Operational; the client has since added further storage of its own, extending the scheme.

Effluent reuse

Food producer, Randvaal

Problem
Municipal water consumption costs and effluent leaving site as pure cost.
Programme
Treated effluent recycled for domestic reuse on site (toilet flushing), commissioned February 2022.
Result
Around 907 kl of effluent recycled per month. Operational for over four years. Water paid for once, used twice.

Cooling water chemistry

Plastics moulding plant, Pretoria

Problem
Corrosion through a roughly 2 m³/h cooling water circuit damaging production moulds, which were going out for polishing at around R3,000 each.
Programme
A cooling water chemistry programme designed for the circuit and the mould metallurgy.
Result
System fully operational; corrosion problem resolved.
