Municipal water and sewerage works carry two of the hardest compliance burdens in the country, on tight budgets and ageing infrastructure. The potable side has to deliver water to SANS 241, day in and day out, to the public. The sewerage side has to treat what comes back to a standard that meets DWS discharge requirements before it reaches a river. Potable treatment to SANS 241
A potable works turns raw surface or ground water into drinking water through clarification, filtration and disinfection. Coagulation, flocculation and clarification carry much of the load — selected by jar testing for the actual raw water rather than dosed to a fixed rate — and disinfection to a controlled residual completes the train, worked to SANS 241.
Sewerage and wastewater treatment
On the sewerage side, the works has to treat incoming wastewater to a discharge standard before it reaches the environment. Our effluent treatment chemistry supports this — coagulation and flocculation for solids and load removal, and conditioning chemistry for a compliant discharge and a manageable sludge, designed against the DWS discharge requirements the works is held to.
Technical support, not just supply
A works under strain, with variable influent and stretched staff, needs a supplier who will help diagnose a process upset, adjust a dosing regime and keep the chemistry performing as conditions change — not one who delivers drums and disappears. Our engineers sample, dose, monitor, report, and come back.

Do you supply chemicals for both potable and sewerage treatment?
Yes. On the potable side, coagulation, flocculation, clarification and disinfection chemistry worked to SANS 241; on the sewerage side, the coagulation, flocculation and conditioning chemistry that supports treatment to DWS discharge requirements. Both are supplied with the technical support to keep them performing.
Can you help a works that is struggling to meet its discharge standard?
That is where the technical support matters most. Prosep helps diagnose the process upset, adjusts the dosing regime, and works with the site to bring the discharge back into line, monitoring and reporting through the period rather than supplying chemicals and leaving. The chemistry is selected and adjusted for the actual influent.
Is your potable chemistry suitable for SANS 241 compliance?
The treatment is designed to work to SANS 241, with coagulation, flocculation, clarification and disinfection selected for the raw water and supported by the monitoring that demonstrates the standard was met. How does the coagulant and flocculant get selected for our raw water?
By jar testing the actual raw water. The correct coagulant, flocculant type and dose depend on the specific turbidity and water chemistry, so they are established empirically on a real sample rather than dosed to a fixed rate, which is what gets a clean clarified water and a manageable sludge.
